When asked in a March 2016 Harris Poll, the majority of respondents claimed that the maximum range on a plug-in hybrid car was 261 miles. Nobody must have told them about the 2017 Fusion Energi, which gets an estimated range of 610 miles!

The confusion may be about the cord. When you see a vehicle plug in to an outlet, you may think it has to be plugged in to function, and can't run once the battery is depleted. This is actually not the case, as Fusion marketing manager, Wade Jackson, explains.

"Plug-in hybrids are electric vehicles until you run down the battery, then they work exactly like a conventional hybrid. Fusion Energi – with a full battery and a full tank of gas – can go from San Diego, through Los Angeles and all the way up to San Francisco, and still have up to 110 miles of range remaining."

If you charge up the battery using a 240-volt fast-charging station, or overnight with a regular 120-volt outlet, you get 21 miles of gas-free driving range. Never charge it? You still have an efficient hybrid vehicle.
